Why DNA-based traceability for olive oil?
Olive oil is one of the most counterfeited products. The average consumer is unable to determine whether an olive oil is pure or adulterated with inferior vegetable oils. Although price and labelling are important indicators, they do not always reflect reality.
Since January 2019, Mitera GmbH has been selling the first DNA-certified extra virgin olive oils. They are voluntarily analysed by an independent laboratory (BIOCOS). biocos.gr.
